E 'was published on the website of the Gruppo Abele my interview on the subject of environmental

save the earth and set ourselves at the seventh campaign of Caterpillar - Rai Radio 2 "M'illumino less, we interviewed the economist and writer Guido Viale importance of energy saving and proper management of the waste cycle

the environment is a recurring theme of national and international policy agendas, but the targets are faced with difficulties of implementation, political obstacles, the prevalence of the reasons for the profit on those of the health of the planet. That environment is a lost cause?

environmental That can not be a losing battle, because what is at stake is our presence on the planet. If we fail, the Earth will continue to exist (and probably life on it), but without us, because we are destroying the environmental conditions that have allowed humanity to grow, prosper and take advantage of the wealth natural.

Over the years, the environmental cause will become essential for survival, not only in the eyes of the people more aware and better informed, but to all men and industry.

Undoubtedly, the earlier we begin to curb pollution and overexploitation of natural resources, the less of Earth's inhabitants will have to pay for an environmental disaster that is already consuming. Despite the misinformation and the scant attention the media devote to solving the problem, the generality of citizens is more prudent and sensible as they are not rulers or the industrial world, on the contrary shows a lack of culture not only environment, but more generally civil.

In Italy the inability to manage the cycle of waste is poisoning vast areas of the country and what is still called "emergency" increasingly resembles a chronic disease for some territories, such as Campania and Sicily. .. What strategies is urgent to put in place to curb the problem?

The waste crisis in Campania should not be considered a disease, unfortunately, is a project aware of the devastation of the area, designed with the aim of being able to manage in an emergency situation, overriding and nullifying the powers of local governments (municipal, provincial and regional) and making the management land in the hands of powers "extraordinary rendition", the Commissioners, from where it migrates - as is amply demonstrated - first to the local mafia and organized crime and the other to some large enterprises in North, as in this case "Impregilo "- which was responsible for eight years of waste management throughout the region - and then the Lombard" A2A ", which inherited the management of the incinerator and two waste treatment plants.

This is a practice that the Canadian journalist and activist Naomi Klein describes in her book "Shock Doctrine", published by Rizzoli: they exploit natural disasters (or artificial, man-made) to establish a regime in the entire territories of government land suspending - temporarily or permanently - all constitutional rules, to entrust the management of their power and interests in private companies.

What can you do to the so-called "emergency" waste is as simple as only applying in practice what the European Directive 98/2008 [link] provides, in summary, in four steps. The first is preventing the production of waste, there are a wide range of policies implemented in many regions that may lead to reduce the amount of waste produced. It was done in Germany, even in large cities, like Berlin, so we can succeed even in Italy. The second point, the real innovation European directive, is to practice reuse: where possible we must find the means and channels to recirculate the product, repair and recovery in the form and for the purposes for which they were produced. Italy has implemented this measure, but rules are needed for the application of fiscal, administrative, economic and cultural because it can see the benefits. The third measure is the recycling of municipal and industrial waste, which can only be effective with the collection. Finally, the treatment of the residual: even those materials that the collection has not been able to isolate must be further selected.

short, what you can not recycle, it can be reused?

Exactly. There are already good examples of systems that allow the recycling of total waste. The material ecoballe not checked that Campania exports to Germany, when Germans were incinerated. But now are used in recycling plants. Besides killing the amount of waste, this is a real treasure, that we would be buried or incinerated.

This year the Rai Radio 2 Caterpillar promotes the initiative "M'illumino less" that puts the spotlight on energy savings declined in everyday life. Small gestures, large scale. But they can affect the problem of pollution and depletion of natural resources? I think it is very important

virtuous behavior for the individual environment, especially when not only the result of a personal choice, but part of a promotion program created by the needs and wishes of a group and not "fallen from above ".

Surely the campaign M'illumino less "is an initiative of this kind. It has a political value, because it gathers people of good will and is exemplary, because it demonstrates concretely that by adopting good habits you can consume a lot less (and therefore have less impact on the environment) without sacrificing essential to the benefits of progress and modern life. Of course such things are not enough. Next to them I'd need an industrial policy of conversion to more environmentally friendly systems. In the case of lighting, there are great waste, not only in individual homes, but especially in the lighting of public buildings, offices, shopping malls, advertising and street lighting. With the LED lighting technologies, with the same lighting effect, you can have one-tenth of consumption, up to one-twentieth lower than incandescent lighting. A change that could represent a gain in economic terms, yet the industry and public administration does not seem to have gotten the message ...

In your latest book, "The culture of reuse" published by Laterza propose the transformation of ecological stations, where today is entrusted with the bulk waste, in more complex structures, where you can select the goods that can be restored trade or from which you can get reusable parts. Therefore not recycling, but reuse of the object or part of it. Can you explain more about this proposal?

imagine the ecological sites as a point of attraction and a meeting of citizens. Could have enormous significance not only in terms of reducing environmental impact and financial gain for those who uses it, but also for socializing. Today there are already organizations (typically in Italy are cooperatives) who are dedicated to reuse, that is, to retrieve objects still intact or easily repairable

to put them back in circulation, but the activity is still marginal. Now that the European legislation (as well as national) authorizes this activity, the "recycle" could become the place where cooperatives operate the selection of materials, repairing the items or leasing those rights to anyone who wants to do to put them back on the market. But also a place of training for new artisans who want to dedicate themselves to this activity and where people who want to engage in a conscious and efficient Do it yourself "might find training courses and the possibility of using, under the supervision of people who ensure proper use and safety, equipment and machinery that can not be kept at home or bought it because it would use the once ' year or once in a lifetime. The site also recycles could find an exhibition space to exhibit what is created by our waste, thus promoting the pride of a virtuous behavior that actually helps the environment.

not think it's a utopian design?

I do not think that is impractical. E 'concrete utopia, to borrow an expression of Alex Langer. If there was the good will and understanding of the problem - something that is completely missing the majority of our administrators - would be a relatively easy project to accomplish. It would create a lot of jobs, lots of savings, reduced environmental impact and growth of a civic culture and environment that is not based only on opinions, guidelines, desires, but on a concrete practice, which we can measure its effectiveness. Gratulation Phrases On New Baby

I published a manifesto on articlolo feudalesio the new company set up by the' Agreement "I Mirafiori

The agreement signed by all unions at Mirafiori except Fiom and sifted to a referendum by a narrow margin of votes cast under the blackmail of losing forever the work, is likely to fall back on country in a real “feudalesimo aziendale”.

In the meantime - but it is more than a year - will be summoned one by one to be selected and to sign an individual contract binding them inextricably to the terms of the agreement. Many probably will be discarded, because workers in 2012 will have an average age of 48 years, 30 percent are women, and 30 with reduced work capacity can hardly stand the pace of work under the Agreement. Then the NewCo will be set up and only in February 2012, if everything "goes", will begin production of a suv, mounted on flatbed and transmissions and engines manufactured in the USA, to be returned and sold in the U.S. nce mounted. But what sense is this coming and going between Italy and the USA, even if the Fiat plant in Termini Imerese, Sicily, is closed because it was too far away from the component suppliers? The fact is that among the conditions imposed by the climb of Obama to allow Chrysler to Marchionne is to export from the USA and outside the NAFTA (Canada and Mexico) products for at least $ 1.5 billion. Thus, platforms and engines moved (and sold) from Detroit to Turin will contribute as much as possible to the objective. Obvious that this "export" of components will be overcharging and margins of Mirafiori will cut to the bone which may justify subsequent reorganization of the plant. The agreement

Mirafiori, after the one in Pomigliano, the disposal of Termini Imerese, the separation of the car of CNH (tractors and construction equipment) and Iveco (trucks) and the next transformation in NewCo also establishments and Cassino Termoli (Melfi, that Sata is already on his own), in fact a prelude to the dissolution of Fiat Group. Each NewCo, will go on his own. Close, be sold or leased, or work for other brands (like the Fiat Poland, who also works for Ford and will happen to the body of Mirafiori Fiat cars that do not produce more) and become "screwdriver factories" working for others. And then?

Then the crisis is far from being outdated, the finances of three quarters of EU countries are at risk. Consumption stagnated. The European car market (unlike those in the U.S. and Asia) shows no signs of recovery. There is now excess capacity not only in Europe and the USA, but also in Japan, China and Korea, whose producers are now ready to increase their market share in Europe. Some people wondered what the "competitive advantages" which Marchionne expects to sell each year in Europe in more than one million cars manufactured in Italy?

Marchionne and its shareholders, if they manage to complete the climb Chrysler, they can also afford to send workers to the bottom of the Fiat, after having tied with a cord according to their respective establishments. It will derive increased profits and stock options. But the country and all who live of their work can not. The future of the plants, the know-how and labor that are now owned by Fiat does not rest even more on the automotive industry. The sectors that have a future are others: those that lead towards sustainability: renewable energy, energy efficiency, ecoedilizia, regional planning, flexible mobility. And on this point that we

GSA published an article on urban hygiene prohibition on marketing of non-biodegradable shopping bags

Another source of trouble for trade

WHAT FUTURE FOR THE SHOPPER?

Since January this year, non-biodegradable ones are (theoretically) illegal. Replace them with biopolymers or bags are more practical alternative, cheaper and with less environmental impact

The problem The problem of non-biodegradable shopping bags created by Law 296/06 (the "financial" 2007, launched by the Prodi government) that, in paragraphs 1129, 1130 and 1131 prohibited since 1 January 2011, the marketing of the envelopes to take away the goods are not biodegradable. The source of this prohibition is a long war in the environmental world, or a part thereof, against the proliferation of unnecessary packaging (shoppers - many believe - may be validly replaced by reusable bags or nets), in particular against the plastic packaging (because it is the material that, for the problems its collection and selection of polymers, it is more resistant to the recycling and ends in large part to fuel incinerators, however, having a calorific value than oil, and higher than all other waste), and especially against the " bags "which, in addition to all other problems, when they end up in the sea or rivers, are causing the suffocation of many species ittiche, che li scambiano per prede.

Nessuna misura ambientale senza adeguate politiche industriali

In secondo luogo, il divieto, una volta entrato in vigore, è destinato a “spiazzare” i produttori di shopper non biodegradabili: le aziende che li producono – verosimilmente insieme ad altri articoli simili – contano circa 4mila addetti e, according to the Director General of Unionplast, now have three quarters of the workforce in layoffs. It is not a sufficient reason to authorize the continuation of a production that is considered harmful. But if it is considered important or essential to ban, it would be a good idea to prepare project proposals and incentives to open businesses and workers hit the road for a redirection of production. It 'a rule that should accompany all environmental policies, so as not to make them unpopular and unacceptable to the people that it should benefit. The case of the shopper is a small example, that of the polluting plants, the arms industry, or other areas to scale, are clearly much more important, but the rule applies to everyone and if you do not begin to adopt it in the simplest cases, like that of the shopper, it faces a disaster in all areas where the return of production and consumption within the parameters of sustainability risks to require far greater sacrifices.

do not know if the Prodi government, which was launched this rule would then be to bring more determination in the enforcement decrees, both to field conversion measures for workers and businesses affected by the ban. The fact is that the new government that succeeded him, while confirming and maintaining a ban has not done anything and everything, to meet the pressing demands of operators, the Ministry of Environment has been limited, last December, promising to "monitor the industry," to see whether the market will stabilize on its own, or if you require specific measures. For the moment it is limited to fixing two different extensions of the entry into force of the ban, closer to mass retailers and more left for the minute detail: to allow the distribution system to dispose of stocks, no extension, however, for those shoppers who produce them. That would have been wise if, in the three years that was already in office, the Government had tried to address the problem, which was not.

A queste obiezioni il Ministero ha risposto che la normativa europea sulla protezione dell’ambiente giustifica ampiamente misure di carattere limitativo come those recruited and that the withdrawal of the rule by France had been a unilateral, voluntary, not forced.

outcome of a legal dispute of this probably will return in future issues, when they will be more clarified terms. Here we limit ourselves instead to address some practical problems raised by the prohibition of non-biodegradable shopping bags, which are of great importance both for our daily routines, both for the organization of work, both for environmental sustainability in general. The three questions are: What

shopper?

E 'must first distinguish four different types of envelopes used for removal of goods: shopper's true, those funds are distributed to supermarkets, shops and markets of food and various goods, the thin bags used to collect and weigh fruit and Versuri in supermarkets, small bags used for ' removal of small items in pharmacies, stationery stores, hardware etc.. Plastic bags large and sometimes very strong, which are often packed the clothes and that, theoretically, can be reused, even if they have the same characteristics of canvas or plastic bags in supermarkets as shoppers reusable. Referring to the next step the problem of biodegradability, the fact remains that, while all the remaining types of "bags" are also commercially viable substitutes and disposable paper or cardboard, the whole organization of many supermarkets and stores self-service has been built serving the availability of lightweight bags for collection and weighing fruit and vegetables, for which the substitution of equivalent transparent paper bags - cellophane - is highly problematic. Moreover, these bags are just reading the material more dangerous not only because hardly reusable for other purposes, such as the provision of rubbish, but because they are easier to disperse and more dangerous per la fauna e per la flora quando raggiungono l’alveo di un fiume o il mare.

But are considered biodegradable, compostable, but not even the so-called oxo-biodegradable plastics, which are traditional plastic film oleofinica source - usually polyethylene or polypropylene - treated with additives that facilitate the decomposition upon contact with oxygen in the air but in no less than a year. Are considered to be poorly biodegradable plastics with addition of a substance called ECM (MasterBatch pellets), which take longer than one year of decomposition, and not more than 50 percent of the material, against the producers of this material, presented in his time as a biodegradable, have been recently imposed sanctions by the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) for misleading advertising.

In any case, if the bags are delivered for biopolymers in plastics recycling, or recovered from the fraction of undifferentiated plant selection manual and mechanical, they are not recyclable plastic and can also create problems. Conversely, if the oxobiodegradabile plastic bags, which are recyclable, are being delivered to a composting plant as containers for organic waste, and may impede the process, however, compromise the result. The first case was a waste of material, in accordance with a possible degradation of the compost. Undoubtedly the adoption of reusable shopping bags (bags and fills), cellophane bags or reusable containers flexible and certified for the removal of fruit and vegetables from supermarkets could eliminate both problems. But it would take an agreement with all the exercises of the distribution network, as part of an industrial policy oriented towards sustainability which for now can not see the track.

But biopolymers are environmentally friendly?

The last major issue concerns not only shopper in biopolymers - Orai distributed to major supermarkets to replace non-biodegradable, and are imported mostly for their lower cost, from China, and in which it was also denounced the presence of additives are not permitted and dangerous to health - but all the disposable products made from organically grown: first of all the dishes that give a note MaterBi "green" parties and public events where there is much use of disposable products. I'm really green?

No. Certainly not more so-called biofuels - or, more properly, "agro fuels" - promoted, sponsored and largely funded by several governments - including the European Union - as an alternative to fossil fuels, but which are now under charge for several reasons: fleeing acqua e suolo alle colture alimentari in un mondo che ha sempre più fame; fanno salire alle stelle i prezzi delle derrate alimentari proprio a causa della concorrenza delle cosiddette colture energetiche lautamente sovvenzionate; sono all’origine della distruzione di molte foreste primarie in diversi paesi tropicali; sono ricavate da colture che fanno larghissimo uso, con conseguente degrado del suolo, di fertilizzanti e pesticidi sintetici ricavati dal petrolio, che fanno ampio ricorso a macchinari, impianti e attrezzature alimentate con combustibili fossili sia sul campo, in fase di coltivazione, che nella lavorazione, in fase di trasformazione; talché il bilancio finale delle emissioni climalteranti presenta spesso, rispetto ai combustibili fossili, a very small or no surplus. Unfortunately, what holds true for biofuels is even more true for biopolymers used in disposable products. The technology offers viable substitutes: mobile services, rental of supply and wash reusable dishes. Some municipalities not take charge. In others you should obtain some private enterprise. But it is a sector with a secure future.

Swing Set Blueprint Designs

Nobody has asked what would happen if they won the Mirafiori not. It is not a farfetched claim, in the end yes i have won a few votes. If they had not won, Marchionne, the yellow unions (CISL, UIL, Fismic and company) and Sacconi (representing a government that no longer exists) have suffered a setback even greater, but in fact nothing would happen other than what will happen. With the victory of the workers will go to the IGC so for at least a year. When, and if, Mirafiori reopen, the situation in Italy and around the world could be much changed. In the meantime, will be created, Pomigliano, at Mirafiori, and then in all other Fiat plants, many new companies (English, NewCo) that will take individual and binding contracts with the workers who need them. At the Zastava (Serbia implantation of Fiat) are discarding it a lot. At Mirafiori, with an average age of 48 years, one third of women and one third with reduced work capacity, to be discarded are perhaps even more. Then start arriving engines, transmissions and platforms manufactured in the U.S. to be assembled with other components from various sources, transformed into SUV and Jeep (which is the 'archetype' of all the suv) and turned back, to what the ' export "by the U.S. in Italy of those engines and platforms will not have reached half a billion dollars, as per agreements between Marchionne and Obama. Then we'll see: surely cease quell'avanti and forth between parts of Detroit and Turin, which makes no sense, and Mirafiori will need to find a new production and, perhaps, a new "agreement". But it is said that to get there: oil prices è tornato a salire; il Medio Oriente (il serbatoio delle auto di Oriente e Occidente) è in fiamme; quei suv, che due anni fa Marchionne aveva escluso di poter produrre in Europa, potrebbero non trovare acquirenti neanche negli USA. Se invece il “colpo grosso” di Marchionne sulla Chrysler andrà in porto, la direzione del nuovo gruppo unificato emigrerà negli Usa. Gli operai che hanno votato sì non si sono affatto assicurati il futuro.

E se avessero vinto i no? Nor could mount them in a plant in Canada (as threatened), or Mexico (where the mount 500), because they are both countries of NAFTA and the exports to that area do not count towards the target imposed by Obama.

Investment, will give the bare essentials (the "Agreement" Mirafiori does not include any commitment on this issue and Marchionne has repeatedly said that everything will depend on how the market). But with two factories and 10,000 or more employees in the IGC for a year, Fiat lost further market share in Europe is certain and will be increasingly unlikely to get an export from Italy million vehicles in 2014, as provided by the Italy factory floor, even including the 250 thousand SUV assembled at Mirafiori and moved to Detroit, which are a bit 'a shell game. Let then lose the other 18-odd billion of investments under the plan ...

But what will be the Fiat in 2014? Governed by a series of marks and many Detroit companies (NewCo) lists those plants (or even more: at Mirafiori there are already two), each of which will have independent productions. The Zastava car will produce Fiat Mirafiori but will drive Chrysler and Alfa (if the mark will not be sold), while Poland will work for both Fiat Fiat, Ford.

No. Qualcuno aveva cercato di spiegargliele? Forse no: tutti quelli del sì pensavano e dicevano che almeno così avrebbero saved their future. Yet 150 economists have signed a document of harsh criticism of and support for the Fiom. If they had worked to make time for workers and the public aware of what was cooking, rather than leave the field open to those who explained - and continues to repeat - urbi et orbi that that agreement is to ensure a secure future for workers Group, perhaps the referendum would have a different outcome. It is not a lament but a proposal to work in common - more closely with the real world - addressed to all concerned.

Is there an alternative to all this? Yes, to phase out the production where competition that is not a race to lose - the car industry is now the area where these effects are most obvious and most serious consequences - and take a road where the relationship with the market is more direct, agreed, less uncertain and less exposed to the alternative mea mors your life. Sustainable mobility, just as an example (but there are a thousand others, energy efficiency or renewable energy are among them) is not just about producing fewer cars - and cars less energy, less pollution, less ephemeral, less speed is less costly, especially for use in shared forms - and more trains, more trams, more buses small and large means to manage in forme coordinate la domanda di spostamenti di merci e persone avvalendosi di tutte le opportunità offerte dalle tecnologie telematiche; e impiegando in servizi essenziali molto più personale di quanto ne richiedono i robot di una fabbrica semiautomatizzata. E’ una scelta che deve fare capo – come ha detto Marco Revelli al seminario Fiom-Micromega di Torino - a un’intera comunità: e innanzitutto a quelle il cui destino depends on that of workers - young, old, employed, unemployed or "temporary" - to which agreements such as the Mirafiori steal the future. And "community" here is not an abstract word: it means local governments, municipalities, provinces, universities, local health authorities, research institutions, associations, committees, churches, media, electoral programs: each one must ask what can be done to understand more about himself and others, to contribute with their experience, their culture, their professionalism, their ethics, to a shared project. It 's a common task for all - or almost - The abyss is coming

In protest against pollution

Saturday, February 5
many families, children, seniors and groups took to the streets in Milan to protest against the inadequacy of the City in addressing the pollution that now rages unceasingly over year end. This is the poster I made together with the Association Parents Antismog.

ANOTHER BLOW FOR MILAN DITOSSE

Dear fellow citizen,
try to explain the reason for our protest and ask that you join us in demanding the right to a ' air environments.
The 2011 èiniziato in the worst way Milan. The values of PM 10 allestelle is by now too many days and no signs of abating. The situation èevidente to anyone. Our city is now surrounded by a month from a foschiamarroncina and smelly.
Leconcentrazione PM 10 measured are also equal to 3-4 times limitless imposed by law which sets two limits: the limit value of 50 g / m³ as an average value measured over 24 hours not to exceed more than 35 volteall'anno, and that of 40 g / m³ as an annual average. in excess of the limit value 50 g / m³ quasitotalità represent the measurements taken from January 1 , so it is easy to deduce that anchequest'anno, 35 times the permitted limit of superamentodel will be exhausted by the end of February . Ugualmentesiamo far from an annual average of 40 g / m³ which should not essereoltrepassata.
The average value recorded by the ECU to "fund" via Pascal (67.3 g / m³) University City area is about 60% of the value of units in trafficked areas (Verziere - 82.8 g / m³ / Senate - 94.4 g / m³) which shows how siarilevante proximity to the source of emissions and how the current structure diEcopass is wholly inadequate to curb emissions. The reduction of the air pollution in 2010, boasted dalSindaco Moratti in recent days, is attributable to the favorable condizioniatmosferiche for the dispersion of dust. The year 2010 has indeed had precipitation of 60% above the mediadell'ultimo decade.
The limit values of pollutants are not meaningless numbers but sonodeterminati " for the protection of human health " . Particulate matter pollution is indicated by letteraturascientifica as responsible for many diseases that afflict abitantidelle metropolitan areas. Scientific studies show the damaging effects delleparticelle purposes, such as increased mortality Overall, the incrementonella frequency of episodes of angina and recurrence of stroke in people aelevata susceptibility, and an increase in diseases of the population is not sensitive cardiorespiratorionella. The European Agency for the Environment estimates that amyl can be linked to air pollution up to 3000 deaths all'annorispetto to a situation of clean air.
City and Region measures should be taken serious and effective action plans sullabase still missing, although required by law esoprattutto, stop waiting ventoe rain. We short-term measures of health protection for Public Strategies long-term prevention to resolve the problemastrutturalmente.
Mr. Mayor, our lungs can not wait for the times dellapolitica and not just an efficient advertising campaign to clean up the air.

Who but Silvio Berlusconi?

The Guardian, January 24. The Italian prime minister is up to his neck in the scandal, even though polls show the contrary. But who could replace it?

Silvio Berlusconi is at loggerheads. Under investigation for paying a 17 year old girl for sex, for extortion and abuse of power, the histrionic Italian Prime Minister faces the biggest challenge of his life. Often the sex scandals mark the end of a career in politics and more scandals overwhelm a party, the greater the suffering at the polls. But strangely, the Knight - as is well known Berlusconi - appear to experience exactly the opposite. According to a poll published Sunday in Corriere della Sera, the consensus for Berlusconi's party, the People of Freedom (PDL) has actually increased since December, from 27.6% to 30.2%. During the same period, the consensus for the major opposition parties have declined. The Democratic Party (PD) and Italy of Values (IDV), the parties center-left that led to the attacks on the integrity of Berlusconi, suffered a drop in approval, respectively, from 25.0% to 24.5% and from 6.2% to 5.5%. Berlusconi is defying the law of gravity in politics.
But as we do that? There are two reasons. The first, shocking as it may seem, is that the sex scandal is well suited carefully constructed public image of Berlusconi. Since entering politics in 1994, Berlusconi has built its success posing as a person with whom everyone can sympathize and identify with which everyone would like. Un bon bon vivant who makes no secret of his love for the rich, wine and women, has projected image not only as an entrepreneur who has made himself, but also as a normal man who does not hide his weaknesses all too human, with the same mundane tastes of the average Italian. The prime minister embodies the Italian dream: he loves football and is the owner of AC Milan, is a successful businessman, is a television mogul who loves to surround himself with beautiful women. And his alleged involvement with Karima "Ruby" el-Mahroug only serves to reinforce the key elements of this picture. Regardless of the morality of the case, Berlusconi continues to live a life they aspire to many Italians.
Second, the greater the pressure on Berlusconi's resignation, more Italians are forced to contemplate the alternative. That there are not many. There are only three options when Berlusconi resigns. The most likely is an unstable center-right coalition led by the ambitious and confrontational Gianfranco Fini. This is not only a former fascist who in the past expressed admiration for Mussolini, but has also been shown to not be able to manage the center-right in an effective manner with at least two failed attempts to overthrow the government of Berlusconi in the past. Rightly, many Italians still feel fine as unreliable at best and dangerous at worst.
The second possibility is a minority coalition of center-left led ineffectiveness PD leader, Pier Luigi Bersani. The big problem is that Bersani of the center-left is hopelessly fragmented and failed to offer a coherent solution to the worsening economic conditions in Italy. Neither the PD nor any of its allies are able to convince the Italians to be reliable enough to govern.
The final option is a compromise. In the absence of a clear successor, President Giorgio Napolitano may decide to appoint a technocrat to head an interim government before holding elections. The absence of a popular mandate and the debilitating effects of the elections at a time of economic instability make this a deeply unpopular choice.
The majority of Italians, therefore, opted for the solution: "Better the lesser evil."

Testimonials: Sex, lies and wiretaps

Belgium, De Standaard - January 19, 2011. Berlusconi falters after allegations of exploitation of child prostitution. "They were real orgy, everyone drank to get drunk and end the girls were still in their underwear," is written in the acts of legal file against Silvio Berlusconi. It is he one who interprets the ethical positions of the Vatican?

Drugs? No, I do not believe in there taking drugs. But they were veritable orgy, with everyone drinking to get drunk. Berlusconi began to sing and tell jokes. The three of them (Berlusconi and his two friends, a famous journalist from one of its television and a talent scout, ed) in the company of 28 girls. All girls who were then at the end with no bra, panties only narrow ... There was also the Minetti (Nicole Minetti, Regional Council of Lombardy, ed) Breast beyond which continued to hug and kiss Berlusconi. In short, it was a real puttanaio, Do you understand? "The
quotes and Carlo Ferrigno, the former prefect of Naples, in one of the calls intercepted by the police reveals how to play the infamous revels 'bunga-bunga' Arcore, Berlusconi's residence. These feasts would start as 'dinners' with a bevy of invited attractive, then the landlord sang a few songs in the early days of his career working as the premier entertainer on cruise ships, finally, the evening culminated in a large crowded. Remuneration, women, young and available, then did sex with the landlord, Berlusconi, sometimes with other guests. This, according to the prosecutor in Milan, the alleged offense charged to the Italian premier.
With its extremely slim majority, Berlusconi has won the battle for power against his former ally Gianfranco Fini, but at the same time it came out weakened: the prime minister must be very attentive to his next moves in order to survive in these 'latest scandal.
The PM says he felt 'overwhelming' that Berlusconi is guilty of extortion, exploitation and inducement to prostitution, plus a minor. The Moroccan Karim El Mahroug, a cubist art that goes by the name 'Ruby Heartbreaker', the report says the investigators last year he took part in the feasts of Berlusconi for months, when it was still a minor.
Later, after Ruby's arrest for theft, the premier applied pressure to make her leave. To this end he invented the excuse that Ruby was a relative of Egyptian President Mubarak, implying that the arrest of the girl could trigger a diplomatic incident. It is this that is based on charges of extortion. The same
Ruby admits that she received several thousand euro by Berlusconi, but insists that he never had sex with the premier 74enne. At the same time, however, Ruby continues to change his version of events. You said it was from Berlusconi for three nights, the wiretaps revealed that the evenings were eight, and yesterday the Ruby version that has suddenly become the prime minister attended since he was sixteen. The wiretaps also show that Ruby had previously blackmailed a former partner asking € 1,500 for not revealing that he had sex with him, when, according to the law, it was still too young.

Pride
Ruby would be a little gossipy, who did not scruple to manipulate people? It is very likely, but at the same time the story ends with her. Investigators have carried out house searches in seven apartments in Milano Due, a luxury apartment complex built by Berlusconi in the seventies. Several girls lived in the apartments free of charge, and were also generously rewarded for their 'friendship' with the knight. Investigators have found in apartments large notes, very expensive designer clothes and jewelry exclusive. All the girls come from the entertainment world, working as models, or are known in Italy because of their participation in the reality show. The PM is convinced that all this luxury material repay in kind.
Sunday, during a video message to the Italian TV, Berlusconi has admitted to 'be with pleasure in the company of young people', and to have given a lot of money to the girls: 'I have helped because they were in difficulty, among others, housing and medical expenses, and I'm proud of this! '. The Italian prime minister, however, denied that there is a link between that money and sex. 'It's something that I would consider damaging to my dignity'.
This is not convinced by the prosecutor. The PM shall base its charges on many accounts and intercepted phone conversations between people who are part of the inner circle of the premier. On Monday, the prosecutor has forwarded the dossier on Berlusconi to the Italian Parliament, along with a search warrant of the offices of Berlusconi. The PM also plan to question him, but his army of lawyers will do everything to prevent this from happening.

Catholic Italy
'Just the idea that a man who sits at the top of state institutions is involved in the stories of prostitution, and worse yet, child prostitution hurts and upsets', wrote the director Mark Tarquinio yesterday in its editorial.
The fact that the Church is offended by the conduct of Mr Berlusconi has great political importance. Italy remains - at least in cultural terms - a deeply Catholic country 's southern Europe, with the Vatican, the center of world power of the Catholic Church in the heart of its capital, Rome. The Vatican will always continue to affect a large percentage of the Italian electorate who votes mostly for the center, and consequently for Berlusconi.
Relations between the Vatican and the Italian Church and Berlusconi are at least ambiguous and the Church tends to change its mind. For example, in September 2009, Avvenire published articles on the burning behavior of Berlusconi and the Vatican canceled an important dinner with Berlusconi and Tarcisio Bertone, the number two in the Vatican after the Pope journalists loyal to Berlusconi reacted by accusing the then Director of Future of homosexuality. Soon after, the director resigned.
Following the difficulties were resolved. In December of last year, during the power struggle between Prime Minister and the President of the Chamber, Gianfranco Fini, the Church italiana si schierò nuovamente e radicalmente dalla parte di Berlusconi.
Il fatto che ora la Chiesa colpisca duramente Berlusconi, could mean that this time it has gone far beyond the limits on moral grounds. A loss of support that can cost you in the premier event of early elections. Although Berlusconi, a champion of political survival, will stand as a devil nell'acquasantiera, as per the same newspaper Avvenire. Fight till the last breath, because 'resignation is a word that is not part of his vocabulary'.
Berlusconi himself confirmed last night: 'Are you crazy?' He answered when asked if he would resign. 'I feel calm'.

save the forests. Do we save ourselves.

Opened January 24, ilquartier at the UN General Assembly in New York, the 'International Year Forest . The green lungs of the planet host naturaleterrestre 80% of the assets and 300 million people, providing resources for lasopravvivenza to 1.6 billion people.

The formalization came by the UN in conjunction with the Ninth International Forum United Dellen on Forests, scheduled from January 24 to February 4. Conl'invito further protect forests and woodlands, the incontrinascono with the intention of being able to identify and develop disostegno environmental policies and the protection of "green capital", perl'intera humanity and fundamental resource, which currently covers 31% of the surface Earth circaquattro billion hectares. Forests are disappearing too fast but , currently under stress acausa indiscriminate use by man, the main cause ditutto a series of negative consequences on the productivity of land and lostoccaggio of CO2 to the release of huge amounts of greenhouse gases. Deforestation and forest degradation dicirca are in fact responsible for 17% of greenhouse gas emissions globally, as glialberi and vegetation are a carbon sink of about 289Gigatonnellate (billion tons), but at least in stocks' ultimodecennio apparently declined by about 0.5 Gigatonnes.
Forests are also a great "container" of biodiversity , not surprisingly alquale argument was devoted to the international year of 2010. According to the latest stimedell'Iucn (International Union for Conservation of Nature) ilpatrimonio forest creates a direct economic value (in terms of food, fuel, medicine, energy, income and employment) assessed 130 billion dollars a year, maanche indirect: halve greenhouse gases between 2010 and 2020, thanks to the great capacity to absorb CO2 delleforeste, would lead to savings of 3.7 trillion dollars . So the environmental value of forests must be protected esociale economic, resolving critical issues that threaten allasua conservation, deforestation inprimis. The data reveal the extent of cutting of forests sonoimpressionanti: since 2000 every year on the planet has unadiminuzione area of forest equivalent of a country as ilCostarica, so that today the green area covers only 31% of superficieglobale.
Bloccodell'espansione agricultural area of the great tropical rainforests Chesi localized in the equatorial belt, stopping the illicit attraversola traceability of timber and reforestation are some of the solutions persalvare this vital ecosystem. Critical point is still the ' Indonesia, a leading fornitorimondiali of valuable raw materials such as lumber, paper, rubber, oil, coffee, pepper and palm oil, but at the same time caused ladistruzione hectares of tropical forest earning leadership to the country's largest producer cometerzo di gas a effetto serra, dietro a Usa e Cina.
According to the analysis, EASIA Africa have the greatest potential, each with about 500 million hectares dipolmoni green that can be given to the original state of health.
Already several countries such as China, Ghana, Mexico, India, Britain, StatiUniti and many others, have embarked on ambitious programs of reforestation . One form of recognition tutelabasata 100 sites as green UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well 760mila diforeste square km. A huge potential of biodiversity so that it enjoys the support provided by the Intergovernmental pearl conservation sites delpatrimonio Convention for World Heritage. In contrast, once again 's Italy, which with the dismantling of the Stelvio National Park rischiadi endanger the health and preservation of the most important parcoitaliano.
The 2011 will therefore be the year in which the whole world will recognize the vitaleimportanza of forests, to preserve life on the planet, for all lepopolazioni and for all species.
